THE BALCONY BLUES: The blue tits are moving in! (4th April 2014)

I was quite disappointed when I hadn’t seen the pair of blue tits for a while. They usually visit every morning, and after a week of silence I checked again on Friday morning before I went to work. But there was still no sign.

I arrived back home at 4.oopm on Friday afternoon, switched on my tv and was thrilled to see nesting material in the box…

Throughout the weekend, both blue tits were back regularly bringing in what looks like conifer to make their nest. The blue tit also wriggled around the nest box a lot. I’m not sure if this is to flatten the nesting material or to rid the nesting material of insects. I have researched this on the internet. I can’t find out why they do this but apparantly it is a good sign.

Keep watching the video and you will see the blue tit bringing in nesting material and wriggling around. Towards the end of the video a tweet can be heard. This is from the other blue tit waiting outside.

The nest has been building up quite nicely over the past few days…

On Friday afternoon the blue tit was popping in and out of the nest box. Four hours later as the sun was going down, he was still busy working and wriggling around.

Ha ha, love all that wriggling around he is doing, making the bed is such hard work 🙂

Are you speaking from experience there Mum? He is a busy little thing. In the nest box, wriggle, out of the nest box, quick snack on the bird feeder, back in again.
