First sighting of a baby robin this year at Cannock Chase (19th April 2014)

While my blue tits are still busy building their nest, some birds in Staffordshire have built their nest, laid their eggs and raised youngsters that have already fledged!

During a walk at Cannock Chase in Staffordshire with my Mum, we were on the lookout for adders which have been spotted at the Chase. Unfortunately the weather was not kind that day, and the lack of sun meant our chances were pretty slim.

However, walking along a pathway my Mum stopped and pointed at something on the path. At first I thought it was a sparrow or dunnock, but then we realised it was a baby robin tackling an extremely large earthworm!

This baby robin won the battle and devoured the earthworm in one gulp!
