My First Yellowhammer sighting at Cannock Chase (22nd July 2014)

I spent a few hours at Cannock Chase before heading off to the Wolseley Centre, one of my favourite nature reserves. There is a visitors car park at Cannock Chase on Marquis Drive, but there are plenty of other car parks dotted around the Cannock Chase area.

I parked up and after exploring the heathlands at Cannock I made my way back to my car. Sitting in my car I noticed a bird from the corner of my eye. It was a yellowhammer, a bird I had never seen before but I knew immediately what it was. On so many occasions I go out searching for one particular animal and often encounter something entirely different but equally as rewarding. The yellowhammer flew away, so I scattered some seed on the ground and it wasn’t long before he returned along with three others as well as goldfinches and their fledglings and a baby robin taking a bath in a dog bowl of water.
