Tree and House Sparrows at Carsington Water, 16th January 2016

Apart from a lovely tearoom overlooking the lake, a courtyard including an RSPB shop and ice cream parlour, and lovely walks around the lake, we always enjoy seeing the tree sparrows from the bird hide on our visits to Carsington Water.

We see plenty of house sparrows at our bird feeder at home but tree sparrows are much shyer and numbers in the past have declined.

Differences between Tree and House Sparrows

  • Tree sparrows are smaller than the house sparrow.
  • The tree sparrow has a brown head, the house sparrow’s head is grey.
  • The tree sparrow has white cheeks with what looks like a splodge of black paint on each cheek.
