Bluethroat and Red-breasted Flycatcher, RSPB Bempton Cliffs

As summer ends a new season brings new wildlife. As Autumn and winter approaches, migrant birds begin to arrive. This particular weekend, we were in search of a bluethroat and red-breasted flycatcher which had turned up on the east coast at Flamborough Head. Within just a few minutes of arriving at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, the huge crowd of twitchers led us to the right spot. Unfortunately, being a juvenile, he did not have the blue throat. However, it was still a magical moment to see such a rarity. Luck was on our side that weekend. We saw a red-breasted flycatcher and jack snipe the following day.

That weekend we travelled from one place to another on the east coast hoping to catch sight of as many birds as possible. Hopping in and out of cars, waking up at the crack of dawn and missing a full English breakfast at the B & B where we stayed would not be everyone’s cup of tea; for me and my husband that is our perfect weekend.

And a few other favourites from the weekend…
