The Dipper

One of my favourite birds has to be the dipper. My first encounter with one was a couple of years ago when I went walking with my Mum at a Staffordshire wildlife trust reserve called ‘Cotton Dell.’ Since then I have spotted them at Dovedale Nature Reserve in the Peak District and there is one that frequents the river outside a little restaurant called ‘The Corn Mill’ in Llangollen, Wales.

Dippers are fond of fast flowing rivers where they can actually walk under water to find food. It is an incredible sight to see. But what I like most about dippers is their habit of bobbing up and down with their tails cocked. I managed to capture some footage of this on a river in Scotland a few weeks ago…
