Long-tailed Duck, Westport Lake

Luckily my mum and dad understand that our interest in birds and wildlife is more like an obsession. After making plans to visit home for a celebratory birthday meal for my dad, we headed off to Westport Lake in Staffordshire for a leisurely stroll beforehand. Mum had the meal planned for 2pm, and as luck would have it, 1.55pm was the time we spotted a rare long-tailed duck on the lake. We had to get a photo. But, a long-tailed duck has the very annoying habit of diving quite frequently underwater. By the time the camera was focused, he was back under again. We eventually got our record shot…and arrived slightly late for lunch.
