Mediterranean Gull, Newburn Bridge

Most birders know that identifying gulls can be a challenge and don’t even get me started on the Juveniles! Since having a very generous and extremely useful gift in the form of a spotting scope from my Mum and Dad at Christmas, this ID process has become a lot easier. So we were thrilled when we were able to spot a Mediterranean Gull on a beach at Newburn Bridge in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. My first! Looking very similar to the black-headed gull except slightly larger, the Mediterannean gull lacks the black markings on the tail which can be compared on the photos below.med-gullmed-gull-2
