Date: 2nd April 2017
Place: Cannock Chase (south facing bank)
Weather: Cloudy with breaks of sunshine
On Sunday we went out in search of adders. The forecast had promised brilliant sunshine but it turned out to be quite chilly. We left early, but despite carefully searching through the heathland along the paths, after a few hours we still had no luck.
About to give up hope, we took one last look amongst the heath, and there lying under some gorse was a female adder. She kept a carefully eye on us as we approached. We had a good view before she slithered away in the undergrowth. I am still surprised at the size of an adder, a lot smaller than the grass snake and can be easily missed.
