Place: RSPB Middleton Lakes
Date: 2nd April 2017
Hearing that two male garganey and a female had been spotted on Fishers pond at Middleton lakes, we made our way there. The garganey is a very scarce, secretive duck so we thought our chances of getting a good view would be slim. As luck would have it, one of the males was dabbling near to an island on the lake very close to us! We also spotted the other male and female dabbling close to the reeds. We had come armed with our scope hoping for a distant glimpse of this bird but were rewarded with extremely close up views of this very shy duck.
