During a walk along the Butterfly Trail at Wyre Forest I noticed an unusual bee. It reminded me of a tiny hummingbird with a very long proboscis. We were intrigued by these little bees as we saw many on our walk. Once we got home we of course researched what type of bee it was only to discover it was an imposter! It is not a bee at all but a fly!
The bee fly, as the name suggests, looks very much like a bee. With a brown, red and orange hairy body, very similar to a bee it also hovers like a bee. The ones we saw also had clear wings. A fascinating, characterful, little creature.
